I advise PhD students to prepare them for academic and research careers. I greatly enjoy working with doctoral students and have learned much from each of them. Today a dozen of my former doctoral students hold tenured or tenure-track transportation policy and planning faculty positions, and several others work in positions of transportation research and leadership. Further, I have been fortunate to chair a dozen dissertations, theses, and graduate capstone research projects that have been named the best in the U.S. by Council of University Transportation Centers, as well as three PhD dissertations that have been named best across all planning sub-fields by Association of Collegiate Schools of Planning.
